Wimbledon BookFest features in Sir Lenny Henry documentary

Sir Lenny’s World Book Day event captured on film for One of a Kind

Actor, comedian, presenter and author Sir Lenny Henry joined Wimbledon BookFest earlier this year to celebrate World Book Day 2023.

The event, which brought 1,000 children from 23 south London schools to the New Wimbledon Theatre, was captured on film by the makers of ITV documentary One of a Kind – an affectionate retrospective of Sir Lenny’s remarkable career.

The schoolchildren all received a free copy of Sir Lenny’s book The Boy With Wings: Attack of the Rampaging Robot.

Speaking on the day, Sir Lenny Henry said; “This is a fantastic event. Anything that encourages kids to read for pleasure is a very good thing. I was crazy about reading when I was younger – and it made me who I am today.”

Fiona Razvi, Festival Founder and Director said; “What better way to celebrate World Book Day than with a true national treasure! Our young audience was captivated by Sir Lenny’s stories, his enthusiasm, energy and sense of fun. We were thrilled to feature in One of a Kind – and have the chance to relive such a special event.”

One of a Kind aired at the end of October on ITV1 and is available to watch on catch-up.
