Wimbledon and the Age of Slavery Walk
Wimbledon and the Age of Slavery Walk
Led by Peter Walker
Exploring Wimbledon’s links to the slave trade.
As public discussion intensifies about Britain’s involvement in the slave trade, this walk looks locally, stopping at some of the houses lived in by prominent residents who directly benefited from the slave trade. The walk also visits the house where William Wilberforce lived and campaigned in what turned out to be a forty-year fight, culminating in the Slavery Abolition Act in 1833.
Meeting Point: Crooked Billet Green, SW19 4RQ. Ends at Cannizaro House, SW19 4UE.
