Reeta Chakrabarti & Garrett Carr

Powerful Debut Fiction

Journalist and Chief Presenter for BBC news, Reeta Chakrabarti joins academic and author Garrett Carr for this fabulous fiction event.

Garrett and Reeta will engage in a discussion about their approaches to the writing process and their debut novels. Both stories explore betrayals, displacement, secrets, chosen families, and the journey to find one’s place in the world.

Reeta’s ‘harrowing and ambitious’ story delves into the complexities of mother-daughter relationships and the weight of family secrets, travelling from Mombasa to England to Kolkata over the course of two decades. Told in a captivating communal voice, Garrett takes us to the West Coast of Ireland, where a family and a community is transformed by a fisherman’s decision to adopt an abandoned baby.

Reeta Chakrabarti and Garrett carr will be in conversation with Simon Savidge , a literary journalist and presenter known for his author interviews and the blog Savidge Reads.

‘The Boy from the Sea is a dazzling exploration of the ties that make and bind us.’
