The Gap of Time (A Winter’s Tale): UK Premiere
Korean Pansori - Performed by Jung Eunhye and pianist Kim Yong-Jae

An adaptation of Jeannette Winterson’s – The Gap of Time
In partnership with WOW Culture Seoul
Straight from WOW Seoul Book Festival, the internationally-acclaimed pansori singer Eunhye Jung will be coming to Wimbledon BookFest for her only London performance.
Eunhye Jung will be performing a new work inspired by Jeanette Winterson’s The Gap of Time, Itself an adaptation of Shakespeare’s A Winter’s Tale) in the style of pansori, the ancient Korean art form that weaves storytelling, song and drumming. In this performance will perform accompanied by a pianist. Her adaptation blends offer an innovative approach blending Korean interspersed with western references, creating a perfect introduction to an ancient Korean art form and for those wanting a fresh approach to this traditional art form for those new to it.
As Korean literature, food, and music become increasingly part of the cultural mainstream, we are delighted to be bringing this spellbinding art form to London. This very special session which will feature Eunhye’s live performance, alongside a short discussion introducing the work and its adaptation process with Korean cultural studies expert, Hyunseon Lee.
Pansori is Korea’s traditional form of solo musical storytelling—deeply lyrical and emotionally rich. It also embodies the enduring spirit of Korean culture, with modern interpretations continuing to captivate audiences by blending the ancient art with contemporary styles, making it a significant part of the country’s cultural landscape.
With thanks to Drago for the Yakgwa cookies.
‘Eunhye Jung updates the fierce experimentalism of Korean Pansori for the modern age.’
