Nandini Das

Courting India

New Generation Thinker Nandini Das will be discussing her ground-breaking new history.

Courting India dissects one of the most important encounters in the history of colonialism: the British arrival in India in the early seventeenth century. Selected as one of the ‘FT books to read in 2023’, Nandini offers an insider’s view, via Thomas Roe, King James I’s first ambassador to the Mughal Empire, of a Britain in the making. Courting India has been shortlisted for the British Academy Book Prize for Global Cultural Understanding.

‘A sparkling gem of a book … Beautifully written and masterfully researched, this has the makings of a classic’ – Peter Frankopan

Nandini will be in conversation with bestselling historian, broadcaster and screenwriter Alex von Tunzelmann.
