My Dear Kabul: Writing from the Frontline

Stories of Afghanistan: Reporting from the Front Line

Untold Narratives is a development programme for writers marginalised by community or conflict, and has been working with women writers in Afghanistan since 2020. Hear from some of the writers and translators together with Andrew North, former BBC South Asia correspondent.

This women’s writing group created a place of community and strength in the face of terror and provided a vital space to keep their creativity alive, support each other and bear witness to the political turmoil unfolding around them. Andrew North, former BBC South Asia correspondent and author of War, Peace & War, will be joining the panel. In early 2022, Andrew North was kidnapped by the Taliban. By the time he found himself imprisoned in a jail cell, he had been reporting from Afghanistan for two decades, coming to know hundreds of Afghans along the way. This book brings together both his and their stories.

‘An immensely powerful communal testament. Its courage is momentous.’ – Ali Smith

Elizabeth Briggs will be chairing this panel event. Elizabeth is a writer, editorial director of Middle East publisher Saqi Books and occasional activist. Her work magnifies society’s fringes and history from below.

This event lasts an hour.
