A multi-award-winning writer of novels, memoir and short stories, Kit de Waal is also the Chair of Judges for the 2025 Women’s Prize for Fiction and an active advocate for working-class writers, establishing a Creative Writing Scholarship for writers from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Kit will be discussing her writing career which includes the Merton Big Read, her evocative and moving memoir Without Warning and Only Sometimes, and her most recent novel, The Best of Everything, which is about the love that can steal into our lives – in spite of the best laid plans and was published earlier this year to rave reviews from Bernardine Evaristo, Annie Macmanus, Monica Ali and more.

This event will be chaired by Lennie Goodings, the Chair of Virago Press who has published authors including Maya Angelou, Margaret Atwood and Sandi Toksvig. After the event, there will be a book signing with Kit de Waal—copies will be available to purchase onsite.

‘De Waal has the power to astound, to lift and console, to make life with her sentences.’
