Harriet Walter

She Speaks: Shakespeare’s Women

Having played most of Shakespeare’s female characters, actor Dame Harriet Walter now delves between the lines of the plays she knows so well to let these women finally speak their mind.

Gertrude tells Hamlet the truth; Lady Macbeth regrets her actions; Kate, the Shrew, challenges societal norms and Cleopatra’s handmaiden reveals secrets. The inner lives and thoughts of these and many more witty, mischievous characters are laid bare.

Harriet will be in conversation with Thangam Debbonaire, who was the Member of Parliament for Bristol West from 2015 to 2024 and was appointed a life peer in the House of Lords shortly after. She previously served as Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.

‘With her characteristic wit, playfulness and fierce intelligence, Harriet Walter gives tantalising voice to the bard’s female greats.’
Tamsin Greig
