Gyles Brandreth

Celebrating 100 Years of Winnie-the-Pooh

We are delighted to welcome back the irrepressible Gyles Brandreth as we celebrate his biography of A.A. Milne and the global phenomenon Winnie-the-Pooh.

Drawing on years of friendship with Milne’s son, the real Christopher Robin, Gyles will conjure an intimate portrait of a prolific author whose legacy came to be defined by his most famous creation. This is the story of that bear — but it is also a story about youth, growing up, fathers and sons, the double-edged sword of success, and, perhaps most of all, the impossible longing of returning to the enchanted places of childhood.

In this special live event at Wimbledon BookFest, Gyles Brandreth — renowned broadcaster, author, and master storyteller — takes us on a nostalgic and thought-provoking journey through the life and times of A.A. Milne. Expect a blend of humour, insight, and heartfelt storytelling, as he reflects on the origins of Winnie-the-Pooh, the real-life inspirations behind the characters of the Hundred Acre Wood, and the bittersweet realities behind the beloved children’s classic.

Whether you’re a lifelong fan of Winnie-the-Pooh, fascinated by literary biographies, or simply enjoy Gyles’s unique charm and wit, this event promises an unforgettable evening of literary magic. Perfect for readers of all ages, it will appeal to families, book lovers, and anyone intrigued by the man behind one of the most enduring stories ever written.
