The Biological Origin of Sin
Dr Guy Leschziner speaking on stage at Wimbledon BookFest, discussing the neuroscience behind human behaviour.
Claire Cohen in conversation with Dr Guy Leschziner on stage at Wimbledon BookFest.

What if the seven deadly sins are hardwired into our brains, and aren’t moral failings at all? Neurologist Guy Leschziner investigates if gluttony, sloth and pride might in fact help us to survive.

Building on some of the most fascinating cases he’s treated as neurologist, Dr Guy Leschziner interrogates the evolutionary, neurological and psychological underpinnings of each of the seven deadly sins which he believes are present in all of us.

In conversation with journalist Claire Cohen, Dr Guy Leschziner presents examples from cutting-edge science, exploring the blurred line between normal and pathological, and investigating the concept of ‘free will.’ This event delves into the biological roots of human behavior, challenging the notion of whether ‘sins’ are true vices or natural—and perhaps essential—functions.

‘Has the power to change the way you look at the world.’
Steven Bartlett

Dr Guy Leschziner is a consultant neurologist and a Professor of Neurology at King’s College London. He has presented three series on BBC Radio 4 and BBC World Service, filmed for Channel 4 and is co-presented of “Sleeping… with David Baddiel.”
