Fiza Saeed McLynn & Emma Cowing

Run Away to the Circus

Two exciting new voices in historical fiction discuss their creative journeys, personal inspirations, strong female characters and life outside societal expectations.

Both debuts uncover the thrills of the fairground and the dangers that lurk in its shadows. Local author Fiza Saeed McLynn whisks us between Chicago and Paris in the Jazz Age for a glittering tale of obsession, revenge and love whilst journalist Emma Cowing charts an all-female circus travelling across Edwardian Scotland.

Fiza and Emma will be talking to Eithne Farry, a writer, editor, and literary critic known for her work on contemporary literature and book culture.

‘What a circus act we women perform every day of our lives. Look at us. We run a tightrope daily, balancing a pile of books on the head.’
Anne Morrow Lindberg
