Getting Published: Aliya Ali-Afzal & Kate Sawyer

Two writers share their journeys to becoming authors

Two fiction writers share the stories behind their novels alongside their journey as writers.

Their latest books tackle one of life’s biggest occasions – a wedding day – with humour and honesty. Funny and heart warming but weighted in truth, Aliya and Kate will discuss how they created their complicated, joyful characters and look at the real issues behind the minefields of family, tradition and self-fulfilment. Aliya is now writing her third novel and Kate’s The Stranding is being adapted for screen with Afua Hirsch’s production company, Born in Me and Fremantle.

They will also talk about their careers as writers and novelists and how they got there.

‘Aliya writes with warmth, intelligence and poignancy.’ – Sophie Kinsella

This recent is hosted by Simon Savidge, who is behind the book blog and YouTube channel Savidge Reads. He founded the Green Carnation Prize, has been a talent scout for Orion Publishing, and a judge for the Guardians’ Not the Booker, Fiction Uncovered and the Costa Book Awards.
