Wimbledon authors at RHS Chelsea Flower Show

We were delighted to curate the Bibliotherapy Reading list for our Friends at Viking, and invite some of our authors to their beautiful garden at RHS Chelsea.

We are delighted to have curated a reading list for Viking, a global leader in experiential travel and a long-term supporter of the festival, for the ‘A Space to Read Balcony Garden sponsored by Viking’ at RHS Chelsea Flower Show (20-24 May.)

The ‘Bibliotherapy’ reading list features books by authors speaking at this year’s Festival including David Nicholls, Elif Shafak, Esther Freud, Fiza Saeed McLynn, Lemn Sissay and Kit de Waal. Designed to appeal to nature lovers, the reading list is a collection of the perfect books to read outdoors and reflects themes of hope, nurture and kindness, all central to this year’s Festival.

Authors Esther Freud and Fiza Saeed McLynn, who feature on the list and are both appearing at this year’s festival visited Viking’s balcony garden on Press Day, Monday 19 May, in support of the initiative and to experience first-hand the joys of reading outdoors.

‘A Space to Read Balcony Garden sponsored by Viking’ is a verdant outdoor reading room for passionate gardeners, which celebrates the synergy between books and nature, designed by Freddie Strickland and Ben Gifford. Viking, known for offering culturally enriching experiences and its support of the arts as well as its onboard libraries and voyages to destinations rich in literary heritage, has sponsored a garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show for the past 10 years.

Fiona Razvi, Festival Founder and Director said: “We are thrilled to help shine a spotlight on Viking’s balcony garden, particularly as they are a long-term supporter of the festival and their UK office is based in our local community. Viking shares our passion for supporting literacy, encouraging creativity and celebrating the nurturing power of books and the outdoors. Thanks to our friends at Viking we were delighted to curate this special reading list which gives us a wonderful opportunity to connect with book lovers in their garden and share Wimbledon BookFest’s summer reading list.”
