*IMPORTANT UPDATE* – Unfortunately, Max Hastings will not be able to take part in the festival today due to illness. Ticketholders have been notified.

Chair Stefan Stern will be running a Book Club on Plunder instead.

Acclaimed historian and journalist Sir Max Hastings returns in conversation, illuminating the human realities behind the historic crossing of the Rhine in 1945.

Blending vivid personal experiences with the broader sweep of history, mingling accounts of battles with intimate stories of warlords, soldiers, slave labourers, prisoners, fugitives, and victims, a story rich in drama, pathos, and moral complexity will be revealed.

‘There are few things in life more dependable than a war story told by Hastings.’
The Times

Max Hastings will be in conversation with journalist & columnist Stefan Stern.
