African & Caribbean Storytelling

Orature in Motion - With Mic Lord, Alex Oma-Pius and Olu Oke

Book tickets

Three storytellers bring African and Caribbean oral traditions vividly to life through rhythm, humour, audience participation, and performance.

Three tellers. Three fires.
One from West Africa. One from the islands. One carried hand to hand through London itself.
On this one night, the three fires burn as one. For this time, the room becomes a village.

This live experience explores storytelling traditions rooted in voice, memory, and performance. Through folktales, call-and-response, song, and spoken rhythm, audiences encounter literature beyond the page: living traditions that have shaped generations of storytelling across the African and Caribbean diaspora.Expect laughter, participation, wisdom, and stories carried across generations.

“We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children — and stories are the currency we use to pay the loan back.”

Mic Lord is a performer, director & founder of Five ASide Theatre. Alex Oma-Pius is a performing artist & founder of IROKO Theatre Company. Olu Oke is a story artist, writer & illustrator.
