Chris Patten
The Hong Kong Diaries
Monday 26th September, 6.30-7.30pm
Baillie Gifford Big Tent
£22.50/£27.50
Chris Patten will share his invaluable first- hand experience of a hugely significant point in Hong Kong’s (and Britain’s) history – as well as his thoughts on future relations with China.
Lord Patten will share insights into how Hong Kong was run as a British colony and tell the story of what happened as the handover approached. He will tell us how he sought to strengthen the institutions of self-government, only to be met by opposition. He will also bring us up to date with an account of what has happened in Hong Kong since the handover, offering a powerful assessment of recent events and offering insights into how to deal with China – then and now.
'Get into BookFest' tickets available at £10 for 19s and under.
