Wimbledon and Slavery
Walk with Peter Walker
Sunday 12 June, 11am-1pm
Exploring Wimbledon’s links to the slave trade.
As public discussion intensifies about Britain’s involvement in the slave trade, this walk looks locally, stopping at some of the houses lived in by prominent residents who directly benefited from the slave trade. The walk also visits the house where William Wilberforce lived and campaigned, in what turned out to be a forty-year fight, culminating in the Slavery Abolition Act in 1833.
