Jon Sopel (e)Jon Sopel

A Guide to New America

Mon 9th Oct 2017, 7pm

Baillie Gifford Big Tent

The America of 2017 feels about a foreign a country as you could imagine. As the BBC’s North America editor, Jon Sopel has had rare access and insight into those shaping the world’s most powerful nation. He’s travelled on Air Force One, interviewed President Obama and been eye-to-eye with President Donald J Trump. In his new book, If Only They Didn’t Speak English, Jon sets out to analyse how a country that once stood for the grandest of aspirations is now mired in political extremism and racial division. Through his unique vantage point, Jon will paint a picture of a very different America from the one you think you know.

Jon will be interviewed by Steve Bloomfield, Deputy Editor for Prospect magazine.
