‘A short story is, or can be, a steady, timed flame like the lighting of a blow lamp on a building site full of dry tinder.’ Jane Gardam
Join us for a conversation with the celebrated writer Jane Gardam, Whitbread Award winner and Booker nominee. Jane spent a number of years living in Wimbledon, which has been an inspiration for many of her characters. Today she will be in conversation with Neel Mukherjee, writer of The Lives of Others and a huge fan of Jane’s work. He has described Jane as ‘one of the finest living writers in the English language’. Wimbledon BookFest will be launching the Jane Gardam Short Story Prize at the event to honour her contribution to the form.
