Bill Pertwee:
Dad’s Army
Bill Pertwee, the World’s most famous Air-Raid Warden relives some of the best of Dad’s Army. He appeared in the very first episode and remained part of the cast until the last. He is president of the Dad's Army Appreciation Society, and remains close to most of the surviving cast of the show.The event will include some classic Dad’s Army video.

Emma Darwin
Novelist and great-great-granddaughter of Charles Darwin, Emma Darwin will be talking about her novels The Mathematics of Love and the recently published Secret Alchemy.
Emma will be in conversation with local writer Jayne Buxton.

Patrick French
The World Is What It Is CANCELLED
Award-winning English writer and historian Patrick French talks about his biography of Nobel prize-winning writer Sir V.S. Naipaul, “a man who has earned a knighthood, a Nobel and enemies galore”. Naipaul authorised the biography which painted him as “a genius, loner, sexual obsessive, ogre, snob, provocateur and profoundly influential and controversial thinker” (New York Times). The talk includes a short film clip.

Slumdog Millionaire
A chance to see this Oscar winning film in the company of the screenwriter Simon Beaufoy. Simon won an Oscar, BAFTA and Golden Globe for his screenplay and will be introducing the film along with the film’s production designer Mark Digby. The pair will host a Q&A following the screening.
The film has some interesting Wimbledon connections; the soundtrack included tracks from MIA, an ex-Ricards lodge student; Mark Digby started at Polka Theatre’s youth theatre and the agent for Vikas Swarup’s book, Q&A, Jess Buckman, is based in Wimbledon.
